It’s early January 2012 and as I sit sipping hot coffee and looking out over the tundra here in Alaska, I wonder what this New Year brings with it. I’m sure you must be thinking,…from the desert to the snow? Brrr.r.r.r.r. Let’s not forget I’m originally from Canada, and love the snowmen just as much as the cactus. It is so very beautiful and peaceful here in Alaska, and I am filled with anticipation and excitement of the wonderful musical experiences to come in 2012. Lots of travel, that’s for sure.
For starters I will be singing at the Onyx Restautant, Fri. Feb. 10th, 6 – 9pm. I love this restaurant and have been singing here quite often for almost 2 years. The friendly Management and Staff really care about you, and the food prepared by Chef Rey is delicious! There’s also a very cool bar where you can enjoy your favorite drink. Onyx Restaurant, 7770 West Ann Road, Las Vegas, NV 89149
Then on Sat. Feb. 11th, I will perform with my jazz quintet featuring Gary Queen on Guitar, Gary Anderson on Sax, Jeff Davis on Bass and John Plows on Drums, at the PBS 23rd annual fundraiser called SPLENDOR IN THE GLASS. What a treat! Some of the most talented and fabulous musicians in Las Vegas! This wonderful Wine and Beer tasting will present 60 wineries and breweries, a live wine auction, a silent auction and special guest appearance by Chef Julian Serrano from Picasso Restaurant at Bellagio and Aria.
23rd Annual SPLENDOR IN THE GLASS, benefitting PBS
Sat. Feb 11th, 3-7pm, Las Vegas Hilton – Hilton Center
3000 Paradise Road, Las Vegas, NV 89109
Tickets: $75 in advance, $90 at the door
This will be our third year participating in this PBS event and it is certainly a highlight for all of us.
Okay,… time to sign off. But before I go, I want to wish everyone a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year! Let’s all start by filling our hearts with love! HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!!
Even though it is still very hot here in Las Vegas, summer is almost over. It has been a great summer musically and I would like to send a special Thank You to the Owners, Management and Staff at The Onyx Restaurant, Elements Kitchen & Martini Bar, Casa Di Amore Restaurant and La Scala Restaurant (Oh, and thanks to my supportive, dear and talented friend, singer Larry Liso for the introduction). Thank you all for being so nice to me. It was a pleasure to sing for you and your Guests!
Another highlight for me this summer was a Guest Performance I did in the afternoon show, HIT PARADE, at the Suncoast Casino, Thurs. Aug.25th. Wow! A fast moving and entertaining variety show. It was so much fun I didn’t want it to end! Seriously, you remember the song from My Fair Lady,… I Could Have Danced All Night,… well, that’s how I felt. I Could Have Sang,…. and Danced all Day! Ed Mathews, a very friendly and gracious man who really knows his stuff, is the Producer. Ned Mills, star of the show Leonardo, is the Musical Director and the two Hosts of the Hit Parade the day I performed, were none other than the fabulous and very popular singer, Ronnie Rose, and long time Las Vegas Entertainer and local TV Personality, Tony Sacca. My duet with Ronnie Rose is a memory that I will cherish, and will linger with me for quite a while as I simply love to sing with other people who have great voices. I suspect it is the same for musicians with their instruments. HIT PARADE The Show. What a blast! Check it out everyone.
OK. Time to get back to work, although it rarely feels like work when I am singing and dancing around Las Vegas. I absolutely love Jazz music as you all know, but lately I have been really digging songs of the 60′s and 70′s. I have added lots of new songs to my repertoir, and it is so much fun when people sing along, and enjoy the great memories of their yesterday – I think I will continue to add more!
I would absolutely love to see you!
Here are my public performances for the near future:
Fri. Jul 15th, Sat. Jul 23rd,
Sat. Aug.6th and Fri. Aug.19th
7 – 10pm
The Onyx Restaurant
7770 West Ann Road
(just off I-95 at Ann Road, inside Bogey’s)
This is a very cool spot in the northen part of the city. This party place features a beautiful Fine Dining Restaurant – The Onyx, which serves Continental Cuisine, has a beautiful bar, gorgeous decor and a very friendly staff. Here you will also find Bogey’s Bar and Grill which features 24 hour gambling at the Video Poker machines. Another facility is The Sweet Spot Event Center (an Outdoors party area) . Right now there is a Summer Concert Series going on. Check out the Reggae band, Black Onyx, on July 16th, admission is only $10. These great concerts are also helping a fantastic charity that is dear to me – S.A.F.E.House. They do so much to help!
Mon. July 25th,
Le Tour De France A special Event, 7 course dinner – SOLD OUT!
Elements Kitchen and Martini Bar
4950 S. Rainbow Blvd.
(S.E. Corner of Tropicana and Rainbow)
This is a very exciting event for me. I am thrilled that I have been invited to perform at this special French Dinner Event, and I will sing 2 or 3 Jazz songs in French in honor of the occasion. Ooh La La!
Martini Anyone?
Elements Kitchen and Martini Bar has a Martini menu of more than 318 Martinis to choose from. Amazing! But that is not the best part – it’s the food! Yes, this is a beautiful fine dining restaurant. The chefs and owners are Catherine and Jose Louis Pawelek who are as passionate about food as I have ever witnessed! “Our menu is what happens when you take Tropical Floribbean, Flavorful Asian, Wood Grilled South American and the Classics, and create a fusion of flavours and styles with a dose of fun. We call it Comfort Food with a Touch of Sophistication,” says Chef Jose Louis. Yummmm.m. I can’t wait to eat!
Mon. August 8th, 15, 22nd and Sept. 5th, 6:30 – 10:30
Casa Di Amore
2850 East Tropicana Ave.
(Tropicana and McLeod)
I love this Restaurant/Lounge and have a soft spot for it in my heart. It was one of the first places that I sang at here in Las Vegas, on a semi regular basis – almost 10 years ago! While the city has gone through a lot of changes, Casa Di Amore has kept the “Old Las Vegas” flavor that I love so much! It is a Southern Italian Supper Club. The Italian cuisine is delicious. This authentic Las Vegas hot spot features 24 hour gaming on the machines, and the very talented Entertainer – George Bugatti. George is the real deal! He sings and plays the keyboard, Wed – Sat. If you like a vintage Vegas feel, check out George Bugatti at Casa Di Amore! Come see me too!
Well, I will sign off for now. I sure do hope to see you. What’s your favorite song? Bet I know it!
The V Theater is at Planet Hollywood as well, and here I saw the show, Hitsville, starring the fabulous Jin Jin Reeves. What an amazing entertainer! If Motown is what you’re after – it doesn’t get any better.
Another great afternoon show at V is called PIANO and stars Ryan Ahern. Ryan is an extraordinary piano player. He will not only dazzle you with neat versions of your favorite songs, but will treat you to some of his. You will be in awe of this young virtuoso.
I took in Viva Elvis, at Aria and needless to say I got all shook up! Non-stop energy as is usual for the Cirque du Soliel shows – but I think this one is different than any other. Great dancing, set design and costumes! It made me feel like I got to know Elvis a bit more and in a unique way. It was indeed a thrilling show to see.
Another thrilling and high energy show is Human Nature at the Imperial Palace. Again the songs are from Motown but this has a flavor all of it’s own. The singing and dancing makes you want to jump on stage. Four very talented Austrailian men take us back to Detroit Michigan. They are Andrew and Michael Tierney, Toby Allen and Phil Burton.
Oh Yes! Some other great and legendary Entertainers I have been fortunate to see and hear are: Gladys Knight, who now has her own theater at the newly renovated Tropicana. She was amazing, and her brother Bubba has the sweetest and friendliest personality one could ever experience! He’s so much fun! Barry Manilow at Paris was everything I knew he would be, after all, “He Writes The Songs.” Fabulous! And Englebert Humperdink at the Orleans proved he is not only still a heart throb for us women, but still can sing a pretty melody as if it is meant just for you. Wonderful!
I could go on and on and tell you about all the other great stars I have enjoyed this last little while here in Las Vegas – but I will stop for now. I will tell you about it another time. In the meantime…. see you at the show!
I love PBS! I am delighted to have been asked again to participate in the Southern Nevada Public Television’s 22nd Annual Splendor In the Glass Wine and Beer Tasting benefitting PBS. Jazz Appreciation at UNLV
Today I had the distinct pleasure of presenting my “Yesterday’s Ladies of Jazz” Music Commentary, to a wonderful group of jazz enthusiasts at the University of Las Vegas Nevada. I was able to share the lives and music of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan in an entertaining and educational format. With the very supportive and beautifully melodic John Falbo accompanying me on guitar, I was able to move from one Jazz Great to the next effortlessly. As well as singing their wonderful songs, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of highlighting the trials, tribulations and jazz music contributions of these three Great Ladies of Jazz.
The weekly UNLV Jazz Appreciation Jazz Workshop is on Wednesday, facilitated by Wayne Echt and Chuck Carter. For more information contact Wayne Echt at: wizardofjazz@aol.com

The Rhumbar at the Mirage is a very cool place to enjoy live music. There is a seasonal event and series going on called “Jazz Under The Stars.” The Rhumbar is a patio lounge that has a cigar bar and surrounds you with the exciting atmosphere of the world famous Las Vegas Strip. It’s raised above ground level and you sit amongst an array of lights from the neighboring casinos – very modern and chic, with just the right atmosphere. I will be singing with the Bobby Barnes Band featuring Bobby Barnes on saxophone, Walter Cunningham on keys, Chris Coleman on bass, and Paul Stubblefield on drums. Tuesday, Oct. 19th, 26th, Nov. 2nd, 9th, and 16th. 9pm to Midnight, The Rhumbar is located at 3400 S. Las Vegas Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89109
